Desiderio Desideravi takes its title from the words of Jesus at the beginning of the Last Supper: “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer” (Luke 22:15). The letter aims to enhance the “liturgical formation of the People of God.” Pope Francis wrote this letter “to invite the whole Church to rediscover, to safeguard, and to live the truth and power of the Christian celebration.” At the core of this document is the desire for the entire people of God, starting with the celebrants, to rediscover the beauty and wonder before the liturgy, letting the liturgy itself, those who participate in it, immersing them in what the Pope calls; the ocean of grace that floods every celebration.; In summary, this is a call for a Renewal of the Liturgical Movement.
